Bioventures is South Africa's first niche Biotechnology and Life Sciences Venture Capital Fund. Bioventures was formed during 2001 and began operations in January 2002. The Fund is managed by a company owned by the management team, Java Capital Holdings and Real Africa Holdings.

Preference for multiple product/market companies rather than single product/market companies
Bioventures is an equity investor and does not offer loan financing. Bioventures is also interested in co-investing with other like minded investors. Bioventures is an active investor and takes a seat on the Board of companies it invests in.
