SACA, on behalf of its members, is designing a SACA Player Ranking System. The system aims to gauge each professional cricketer's contribution to cricket by rating his cricketing ability, and his off-field activities as a professional cricketer.
The ranking formulas will be decided by the players themselves. The cricket playing related categories are:
Most valuable player
Each of the above mentioned categories will constitute the cricket playing facet of the ranking, and each category will have its own unique points formula. The cricket playing ranking can also be categorised according to Franchise, Tournament, Discipline, Month and Season.
The off-field activities by players will constitute the other facet of the ranking. This facet's categories, points formulas and its weighting relative to the cricket playing facet will also be decided by players.
This facet deals with players' off – field obligations and activities as a professional cricketer, for example: sponsors appearances, social responsibility involvement, and other relevant off-field activities.
The two facets (on-field performance and off-field activities) of the SACA Player Ranking System will be combined to produce a consolidated points total for each professional cricketer. The player who tops the log and the end of each cricket season will be named the SACA Players' Most Valuable Player (MVP).
SACA will look to host an awards ceremony to acknowledge player achievements under various categories. The Event and Ranking system will be owned by the players and will encourage players to embrace cricket as a profession in its entirety.
